As an experienced professional with 5-15+ years in India's competitive job market, your resume needs to do more than list job duties — it needs to tell a story of growth, impact, and leadership. The resume format that works for freshers won't work for you. Your document should position you as someone who drives results, not just someone who completes tasks.
The optimal structure for experienced professionals starts with a powerful professional summary (3-4 lines highlighting your seniority, domain expertise, and most impressive achievement). Follow this with a Core Competencies section — a grid of 9-12 key skills that serves as both a keyword-rich ATS optimizer and a quick reference for recruiters. Then list your work experience in reverse chronological order, with your most recent role getting 5-6 bullet points and older roles getting progressively fewer (3-4, then 2-3). For roles older than 10-12 years, a one-line mention is sufficient.
Each experience bullet point should follow the PAR format: Problem you identified, Action you took, and Result you achieved. For example: 'Identified 30% redundancy in cloud infrastructure costs (P), redesigned the multi-cloud architecture using AWS and Azure optimization tools (A), reducing annual cloud spend by ₹1.2 crore while improving system uptime to 99.97% (R).' At the senior level, Indian recruiters expect to see rupee figures, percentage improvements, team sizes, and business impact metrics.
Two pages are perfectly appropriate — in fact, cramming 10+ years into one page can look unprofessional at the senior level. However, ensure both pages are dense with value. Include sections for certifications, notable projects or clients, and industry recognition. If you hold a management role, highlight leadership metrics: team sizes managed, budgets owned, cross-functional initiatives led. For 15+ year veterans, consider a brief 'Early Career' section that summarizes your first few roles in 2-3 lines rather than listing each one in detail.
